| This was and IS my life I am from Trinidad, came to United Kingdom at the age of 10, went to schooling, studied and trained to be a nurse. I still live in United Kingdom, loves my food! No, wonder the call me a big gal! I was a qualified nurse for over 30 years, but due to an accident at work, am unable to continue nursing. I have now retired on medical grounds, it took me quite a while to accept that I will never return to nursing, I suffer occassionaly from my knees. I do have good and bad days.I am learning to adjust to changes. On top of that I have discovered that I have Retinitis Pigmentosa, RP for short. I have been told that I have to face the prospect of slowly deteriorating sight. I am trying to learn to adjust, and is grateful that at what sight left I can use. I have various types of low vision aids to enhance the quality of my life. I have very large keyboards letters attached to the keyboards, a magnifying glass (software) I view texts using the largest and of course with the aid of the accessories in the start icon of Microsoft, I am able to adjust to the computer to suit my needs. I am married with four adopted children who are not related by birth to each other. Their ages in 2004 are 30, 28 and both 19. (They are not twins but were born within three weeks of each other.) They are still living home with us. And like all parents, we have and continue to guide them through their stages of their lives. The manifestation of their upbringing reward with positive results. We are close as a family and communicate and enjoy their company. The wonderful joy of being a parent is their appreciation for not only for hubby and me but also to their natural mothers who gave them lives. OTHER ACTIVITIES I have developed other interests such as writing opinions for CIAO. At present I write for few sites. Some of my writings are found at: http://elainebaba.com/writings.html. I have had a go at witing poems! ME! WOW! I learnt and taught myself computing on my own, which I am proud of. Desktop publishing became one of my favorites, and I started out making various items for friends and family and still continue to do so. Another of my achievement is to design and build my web site, I did this with the aid of Yahoo’s Pagebuilder. MARSHA designs most of my backgrounds the way I like them. I have found her to be gifted and pleasant person to work with. HOBBIES I love Jazz music and at the moment David Sanborn seems to capture my heart...I am always wiggling, shake and yes dance to his beautiful Classical Smooth Jazz music. I appreciate any dance music! but yeah! David has to be the Tops! I love a good who 'dun' it mystery and watch these on television, if I can find the time! I also love cooking and have made various meals from all parts of the world! My favourites are Pasta, Chinese and Mexican. FUTURE? Despite my disabilities I am grateful that at least I am trying to continue as long as it takes me. I feel contented, my web site is my pride and joy, so are my family. I feel these are achievements. These pride and joy helps me to appreciate that ‘life can begin after 50’ and no matter what your circumstances are, there are more possibilities and beauty to discover, to explore. I am now learning PAINT SHOP PRO and do enjoy using tutorials from some PSP member's sites and love creating many creative graphics. I will not allow my disabilities to dampen my spirit. I am really enjoying to live again! Life is truly beautiful!. Who says life does not begin at 50? |
